Tooth extractions in Woodbridge, VA

A tooth extraction removes a tooth that is too damaged, infected or crowded to keep. Our first aim at 703 Dental is always to save the tooth, but when that is not possible, removing it quickly ends the pain and stops infection from spreading.

Dr. Bilal Ali performs simple and surgical extractions in our Woodbridge office, including many wisdom teeth. We use digital X-rays and, for wisdom teeth and complex roots, 3D CBCT imaging to see the position of the roots and nearby nerves before we begin. You will be fully numb throughout.

Before any extraction, we discuss how the gap will be handled. Replacing a missing tooth with an implant, bridge or denture keeps your bite stable, and in some cases we can preserve the bone at the time of extraction so an implant is easier later.

Tooth extraction cost and insurance

A simple extraction costs less than a surgical or wisdom tooth extraction. PPO plans usually cover extractions as a basic or oral surgery service, and Virginia Medicaid and FAMIS cover medically necessary extractions.

We accept all major PPO plans, Virginia Medicaid, FAMIS and Medicare Advantage dental benefits, and we confirm your coverage and give you a written estimate before treatment. Without insurance, our membership plan discounts treatment, and payment plans spread the cost.

Why choose 703 Dental for your extraction

Dr. Bilal Ali, DDS, founded 703 Dental around 2004 and still leads treatment at the Woodbridge office. He graduated at the top of his class from Texas A&M Baylor College of Dentistry. Because extractions, bridges and dentures are done in our office and implant treatment is planned here, your tooth replacement can be planned before the tooth comes out.

Patients come to our Minnieville Road office from Woodbridge, Dale City, Lake Ridge, Montclair, Occoquan, Dumfries and across Prince William County. We are accepting new patients, our team speaks English and Spanish, and 703 Dental is rated 4.9 from 423 Google reviews.

Wisdom teeth

Wisdom teeth usually come through between the ages of 17 and 25. Many people do not have room for them, and they become impacted, grow at an angle or are hard to clean. That can lead to decay, gum infections and pressure on the teeth in front.

Not every wisdom tooth needs to come out. If it is healthy, fully erupted and easy to clean, we monitor it with X-rays at your checkups. If it is causing problems or is likely to, removing it earlier is usually easier, because the roots are shorter and healing is faster.

Recovery after an extraction

  • Bite on gauze for 30 to 45 minutes to control bleeding
  • Do not smoke, spit forcefully or drink through a straw for at least 72 hours
  • Eat soft, cool foods for the first day or two
  • Use a cold compress for swelling on the first day
  • Rinse gently with warm salt water from the next day
  • Call us if pain gets worse after day three, which can mean dry socket

If anything does not feel right, call the office on (703) 884-2080. Advice over the phone is free.
